Introduction

The UAH Rover I was conducted for our Senior Project at the University of Alabama in Huntsville in the Spring semester of 2005.

Participants in the project were:

  1. Adam Collins
  2. Steve Conover
  3. Fred Tajalle

The purpose of the project was to mount an 802.11b telemetry system onto a large remote control truck. The system would transit back acceleration, temperature, humidity, and position (from an onboard GPS unit) that would then be plotted and recorded on a laptop computer.

This page documents our endeavors over the course of the Spring 2005 semester.

Project Overview

The telemetry system consisted of a number of sensors that were read by a BASIC Stamp Microcontroller that, in turn, fed its data to a PDA. The PDA then used its built-in 802.11b network card to transmit the data back to a laptop computer, where it was displayed in real time.

The whole telemetry system was mounted on top of a TRAXXAS E-MAXX--a really large remote control vehicle capable of speeds over 30 MPH!

Project Timeline

Because this project doubled as our EE494 Senior Project, the entire timeline was dictated by the syllabus. This means that some things were a bit drawn out while others were painfully contracted.

Another, more convenient way of showing the timeline is as follows:
